2012 International Camporee Patch

The SDIC International Scouting Committee today released the patch image for the 2012 SDIC International Camporee. The colorful pentagon-shaped patch portrays the Mexican and American flags emblazoned over a classic silouette of Scouters in uniform with patrol flags and hiking staffs. The International Scouting symbol is surrounded by a blazing campfire. A scrolling banner with SDIC International Camporee 2012 wraps the bottom of the patch.  The slogan for the 2012 event, "One World-One Promise, Un Mundo-Una Promesa," is prominently displayed at the top of the patches.  The patch will be a popular collectible. You may now register for the 2012 SDIC International Camporee on Double-Knot.

International Camporee Committee Meets Saturday

If you are interested in participating at the SDIC International Camporee in May 2012 as a Staff member or assistant, please join us on Saturday, September 24, 2010 at 11 AM at Camp Balboa in Jeff Boswell's office above Atherton Hall for a planning meeting of the International Camporee Committee.  We need to fill several key Coordinator and Commissioner positions.  They will recruit staff members and assistants, and train them.  These key people and their staff members will supervise, manage, and run the events, activities, registration, food service, and every aspect of the International Camporee.
  • Promotional Coordinator: We plan to contact every troop and crew in SDIC, Inland Empire, OC, and Baja to invite them to our IC. This person will head up this effort, signing up units from SDIC, Mexico and other Councils. Our goal is to have 25% or more of our attendees from outside the USA.
  • Field Events Coordinator (Scoutcraft and Teamwork competitions).
  • Aquatics Events Coordinator (pool and lake activities).
  • Range Events Coordinator (Rifle, Shotgun, Archery, and Wrist Rockets).
  • Registration Coordinator: Supervise registration, fees, and attendee data entry in advance.
  • Food Service Coordinator: We are planning an ambitious food program--box lunches, meals for Staff members, Saturday night dinner for everyone, Sunday breakfast for everyone, and Cracker Barrel for adult and youth leaders.  This Food Service Coordinator and his/her staff will plan, order, receive, stock, and oversee food preparation and service.
  • Camp Commissioner:  Will prepare Mataguay for the International Camporee, including activity areas, equipment, campsite planning, and campsite assignments.
  • Assistant Camporee Commissioner:  Will ensure that all materials are ordered and on hand on time--ribbons, patches (International Camporee and Jamboree On The Trail), T-shirts, Staff apparel, and other items to be determined. We should also start thinking about getting a design for the Camporee patch.
  • JOTT Commissioner: Will coordinate Jamboree On The Trail activities and recognition.
Please come to the meeting and bring your ideas. If you know anyone who wants to help, please invite them to the meeting, or bring their names so that we can contact them.  We  look forward to working with you.

Message from BSA International Executive

From: Phu Tran <Phu.Tran@scouting.org>
Date: September 3, 2011
Cc: Lisa Cristiano <Lisa.Cristiano@scouting.org>
Subject: Information for Council International Representatives

Hello Council International Representatives,

I'm Phu Tran, International Executive for BSA National Council, a new member of the BSA International Department. I will be working with Council International Representatives. I'd like to introduce myself.

I am a professional staff member from a local council in San Jose, California. I started my Scouting journey as a Venturer in a refugee camp in Indonesia. I moved to Canada, where I was a Scouting volunteer for nine years. I came to the USA ten years ago, and I was active in local units in Dallas. Because I was scouting so much, pretty much all my free time, I decided to work for BSA nine years ago. I am still actively involved in many Scouting functions as a volunteer. Scouting has made me who I am today, through my years in the refugee camp and adulthood. My passion for Scouting urges me to do more for our Scouts, so they have the same opportunities I had, and more. I look forward to helping International Representatives (IR's) and Scouters bring memorable and life-changing experiences to our Scouts. I know we will learn much from each other. I want to tell you about an upcoming event and also about how we are improving our communications:

1. Moot Invitation: The International Department is forming a BSA contingent that will go to Panama for XIX Central American Moot in January 2012. We are looking for youth nominations from local councils. Please use this form for youth nominations (fillable PDF file). Here are more details on the event:

XIX Central America Moot Country/Location: Panama
Dates: January 3 -9, 2012
BSA Contingent's Get-together Date: January 2
Contingent Size: 16 members
Web Site: www.mootcentroamericano2012.com

Deadline for nominations: September 19, 2011
Age Requirements: Moot is an international event for Rover Scouts from 17 to 24 years old.
Please nominate Boy Scouts and Venturers who are in this age range.

2. Yahoo Group: To communicate more efficiently, we are building a Yahoo email group for IR's. As an IR, you do not need to do anything to register in this Yahoo email group. Your email address is being added to the group. You will receive a notification from our Yahoo group that your email address has been added to the group. Please be on the lookout for email that I send you and members of the International Scouting Yahoo group with specific international information and newsletters.

3. Facebook: The BSA International Program has a Facebook page. Become a fan to receive information automatically through Facebook. Here is a link to the BSA International Program Facebook page:

To receive info from our page, click the Like button at the top of the page. That will make you a fan, and you will receive new posts on the BSA International Program page.

I am looking forward to hearing back from you and receiving your nominations for the Panama trip. I have sent this message to 230 International Representatives, and many are responding, so please give me a few days to get back to you. I will try to get the important information out to you before it is too late, and I will respond to your inquiries as soon as possible. Thank you for your understanding! Thank you for your time and for what you do for the youth in your council!

Have a great Labor Day weekend with your family and friends!

Yours in Scouting and Service,

JOTA and JOTI Events Approaching!

To all International Representatives:

JOTA and JOTI are coming soon!  You are encouraged to promote the Jamboree-on-the-Air (JOTA) and the Jamboree-on-the-Internet (JOTI) in your local Council. These events are the largest annual International gathering of Scouts and their leaders. This year JOTA and JOTI will be held from midnight October 15 to midnight October 16, and will include Amateur Radio Operators and Scouts and leaders from around the world.

For JOTA, you should begin by looking at the JOTA website http://scouting.org/jota and see what information is available to guide the Council, Districts and local Units as they prepare for Jamboree-on-the-Air 2011. If your Council is not an active participant in JOTA, then plan a Council JOTA station at your Council camp or at the Council office. Contact your local Amateur Radio Club and have one or more stations set up for the event.

For JOTI information, please visit http://www.scouting.org/filestore/intl/pdf/130-883.pdf.  This is the 54th year of JOTA and the 15th year of JOTI. Please do your part to make JOTA and JOTI a great day of International Scouting in your Council. Promote the events at Roundtables, by e-mail, on the Council website, and in your Council's newsletter. Join the adventure of International Scouting!  If you have any questions or need additional insight regarding JOTA, please contact the National JOTA Organizer, Jim Wilson, K5ND, at jim.wilson@scouting.org or 972-580-2010.  If you have any questions about JOTI or need information about ordering patches for either event, please contact:
